PRINCIPLES OF THE HEALTHY DIET

Because in the modern world we live far from the rhythms of nature, particular attention should be paid to what and how we eat. It is important not only for those who have chosen the Way of Yoga but anyone interested in having his body functioning well and resist diseases.

  • Your health strongly depends on the quality of the food you eat and the water you drink.
  • Only natural products are appropriate for consumption.
  • One should eat natural food which is: fresh or freshly cooked, clean (washed and free of chemicals), pleasant for the smell, sight and taste, full of vitamins and energy.
  • Do not look for complicated recipes that take a long time to cook. Long heating kills vitamins and the natural taste of the food.
  • A microwave oven shouldn`t be used for cooking for it affects molecules of the food and changes its nature.
  • Do not think too much about food and cooking. There are a great many interesting things to do. Free your thoughts save your time.
  • Do not eat less then four hours before going to bed. If you go to bed with a full stomach then the horizontal position of the body hinders the proper movement of the food down the digestive system, the food gets stuck and starts fermenting. Consequently the next morning it will be difficult to wake up, the face will be swollen and you will not have a clear head or feel energetic.
  • If your diet is balanced, that means you eat natural food, don`t overeat, don`t have artificial or canned snacks (one fruit for a snack is fine), than once or twice a day (everyone individually) you will experience healthy hunger.
  • Only healthy hunger will tell you what you should eat, what your body needs at the moment.
  • Even when you are very hungry, do not stuff yourself. Eat slowly, don`t take big bites.
  • Enjoy the smell, the colour and the taste of the food.
  • The food should stay in the mouth till its taste vanishes. It prevents you from overeating, from building-up impurities and consequently from overweight.
  • Remember! Cook and eat only in a good mood.
  • Remember! Digestion begins in the mouth.
  • When eating chew the food till it becomes a homogenous mixture so that you can swallow it easily.
  • When drinking savour the drink or liquid rolling it on you tongue.
  • While keeping the food in the mouth a certain amount of saliva and gastric juices are produced necessary for proper digestion.
  • Long chewing strengthens the gums and teeth.
  • Chewing gum is not an option for you swallow nothing after long chewing. Huge amount of gastric juices are secreted into the stomach and eat away at the empty stomach walls.
  • Do not combine eating with animated conversation, watching TV, reading, working, deep thinking and any other distracting activity.
  • Concentrate on what and how you eat.
  • Think about the the benefit of the food that is in front of you.
  • Remember! Each meal is a sacred ritual.
  • Finish eating before reaching fullness.
  • The feeling of fullness comes five minutes after the meal.
  • Sleepiness after the meal is a sign of overeating.
  • One should drink 1.5–2 l of plain water a day in winter and 2–3 l of plain water a day in summer.
  • Start your day with a glass of plain water.
  • When thirsty quench thirst with a glass of plain water.
  • Plain water not only bathes the alimentary canal but cleans the whole organism on the cell level.
  • Drink half a glass of water 30 min before having a meal.
  • After a meal wait one hour before drinking. Otherwise the liquid will dilute the gastric juices needed for digestion. It is highly advisable to start with a glass of plain water.
  • Remember! A glass of juice, a cup of tea and so on is also a meal.
  • When forming your menu, one should remember about foodstuffs compatibility.
  • Digestion of different foodstuffs happens due to acid or alkaline bio-chemical reaction.
  • The wrong combination of food in one meal causes acid-alkaline neutrality, slowing digestion and interfering with the efficient absorption of nutrients. This causes the build-up of impurities in the body.

* Eat separately from the meal not less than 40 min before the meal.

** Only rice is compatible with fresh milk.

*** A slice of a melon and a banana can be eaten when you urgently need a lot of energy but don`t want to overload digestive system.

**** A little chocolate or cocoa can be eaten in case of losing too much energy.

***** Dry fruit is combinable with nuts.

  • Regular medical fasting (one or three days of fasting drinking clean, pure water) not only cleans out the body, and lets organs and systems rest and restore themselves, but helps you to change your eating habits.
  • If you feel it is necessary to change your eating habits and diet do it slowly, without violent changes to let your metabolism take time to reorganize. This works best when you have convinced yourself that any change you make to a healthier diet will create positive changes in your being.
  • Do not say “It is too hard for me” or “I am not for that” if you fail in the beginning. Back up yourself by positive thinking. Use a strategy of switching thoughts from unhealthy to healthy eating habits.
  • Remember! By changing your diet you can consciously influence your body, your energy level, your personality and your consciousness.
  • Believe in yourself and the prize will be success.
